What can a personal curator + ethnographer do for you?

Working with individual clients — from artists to start ups —- I help get your story down on paper. I can assist you in distilling your message, whether it be an artist bio or narrative rich website text.

Artist Bios

Artists often hate talking about themselves and their work, yet being able to concisely and coherently pitch yourself is critical to developing your artistic career.

As the Curator-In-Residence at Kindred Studios, I worked with a community of 175 artists and makers trying to professionalize. In one-on-one interview sessions, typically lasting one to two hours, I helped these individuals identify what makes them and their work stand out, turning this content into artist bios, website text, exhibition text, gallery pitches and social media content.

With my unique background as a Curator trained as an Anthropologist, I was able to identify and transform their stories as creatives into text made for success.

Narrative Rich Website Text: From Founders to Small Businesses

So many of us need help telling our stories, and it’s critical in establishing authority, particularly for a start-up and small business owner. I can help tell your story with authenticity.

Endorsements:

“Sarah was invaluable with helping me pitch for a project. I struggled with writing about myself and she was able to eloquently and succinctly help me make the points I wanted to get across. Sarah also supported me during an important initial meeting with the client. This has given me a framework for approaching work in the future.”—- Amelia Lancaster

"Sarah visited me in my studio and spent about an hour getting to know me and me work. She asked a variety of questions in a relaxed and friendly manner. Talking to her made me more in-touch with my own thought process and gave me clarity on what areas of my practice I should focus on. After her visit she continued to support me via social media and proof reading texts. " —- Camilla Brendon

“As a member of the Kindred Studios community I was incredibly fortunate to have the benefit of Sarah Forbes’s support in defining my practice and opening it up to the wider world.   Sarah generously gave up her time to interview each one of us at Kindred, discovering something of our life stories and creative journeys.  At the end of our conversation Sarah brilliantly encapsulated the essence of my work in a few words, ideal for capturing attention. Sarah is an absolutely outstanding curator and I will definitely keep in touch with her as a crucial part of my development as an artist.”—-Rosanna Gardner“

One of My Clients: Christina Kaiser, Founder of My Guilia

Full of expertise, Christina needed help telling her story and highlighting all of her many accomplishments.

While being a start up founder and business woman is often about selling yourself, growing up in Europe this felt culturally foreign. I worked with Christina to make sure all of her skills and background were featured , so her clients could get to know her as both a person and as a trusted expert.

One of my clients: Saira Jamieson, The Artful Symbolist

Introducing Saira at the London debut of, Life’s Algorithm

I worked with Saira to help her establish her voice as an artist and create an exhibition and event to support her work.

In this process, I aided Saira in creating an artist bio, text for her website, label information, and also guided the creation of a series of works and installations specially created for the event.

The short film, Life’s Algorithm, is a nod to Ms Jamieson’s metamorphosis into her identity as The Artful Symbolist. While the central visual cue is a Saira Jamieson original hand painted work, worn by Salma Hayek in Yugen, a film which debuted at the Venice Film Festival in September 2018, at its core it is a meditation on the power of an artist’s path to be shaped by fate.
